A Journal of Jewish Thought, Culture & Ideas

The Menorah Journal first appeared in New York in 1915, emerging from the intellectual and cultural movement created by the Intercollegiate Menorah Association. The movement itself had grown from the first Menorah Society, founded at Harvard in 1906, and spread rapidly to colleges and universities throughout the United States.

From its first issue, the Journal aspired to be far more than an organizational publication. It created a forum for the serious exploration of Jewish history, religion, literature, culture, art, contemporary life, and the questions confronting Jews in America and throughout the world. Across more than 150 issues published through 1962, The Menorah Journal brought together scholarship, essays, criticism, fiction, art, and debate and became an important part of American Jewish intellectual life.
